Out With The Old

Last Week I threw out WORRYING,
It was getting old and in the way.
It kept me from being me,
I couldn't do things my way.
I threw out those inhibitions,
They were just crowding me out.
Made room for my New Growth,
Got rid of my old dreams and doubts.

I threw out a book on MY PAST
(didn't have time to read it anyway).
Replaced it with New Goals,
Started reading it today.
I threw out childhood toys
(remember how I treasured them so)?
Got me a NEW PHILOSOPHY too,
Threw out the one from long ago.

Bought in some new books too,
Called I CAN, I WILL, and I MUST.
Threw out I might, I think and I ought.
WOW, You should've seen the dust.
I ran across an OLD FRIEND,
Haven't seen him in a while.
I believe his name is GOD,
Yes, I really like His style.

He helped me to do some cleaning
And added some thing's Himself.
Like PRAYER, HOPE and FAITH,
Yes I placed them right on the shelf.
I picked up this special thing
And placed it at the front door.
I FOUND IT - its called PEACE.
Nothing gets me down anymore.

Yes, I've got my house looking nice.
Looks good around the place.
For things like Worry and Trouble
There just isn't any place.
Its good to do a little house cleaning,
Get rid of the old things on the shelf.
It sure makes things brighter,
Maybe you should TRY IT YOURSELF.

A Soldier's Last Letter

Mother

When the postman delivered the letter
Well, it filled her old heart full of joy
But she didn't know 'til she read the inside
It was the last one from her darling boy.

"Dear Mom," was the way that it started
"I miss you so much," it went on
"And, Mom, I didn't know that I loved you so
But I'll prove it when this war is won."

"I'm writing this down in a trench, Mom
So don't scold if it isn't so neat
For you know as you did, when I was a kid
And would come home with mud on my feet."

"Well, the captain just gave us our orders
And mom we will carry them through
I'll finish this letter the first chance I get
But for now I'll just say I love you."

Then the mother's old hands began to tremble
As she fought against tears in her eyes
For they came unashamed, there was no name,
And she knew that her darlin' had died.

That night as she knelt down by her bedside
She prayed, "Lord above, hear my plea
Protect all the sons who are fighting tonight
And dear God keep America free."

To Each His Own

undefined
I cannot change the way I am,
I never really try,
God made me different and unique,
I never ask him why.

If I appear peculiar,
There's nothing I can do,
You must accept me as I am,
As I've accepted you.
God made a casting of each life,
Then threw the old away,
Each child is different from the rest,
Unlike as night from day.
So often we will criticize,
The things that others do,
But, do you know, they do not think,
The same as me and you.
So God in all his wisdom,
Who knows us all by name,
He didn't want us to be bored,
That's why we're not the same.

Little Things

undefined

Too often we don't realize
what we have until it's  gone.
Too often we wait too late to say
"I'm sorry - I was wrong."

Sometimes it seems we hurt the ones
we hold dearest to our hearts.
And we allow foolish things
to tear our lives apart.

Far too many times we let
unimportant things into our minds.
And then it's usually too late
to see what made us blind.

So be sure that you let people know
how much they mean to you.
Take that time to say the words
before your time is through.

Be sure that you appreciate
everything you've got.
And be thankful for the
Little things in life...that mean a lot.

Everyday

Everyday you make me smile
You let me know you care.
You help me see the good in things.
And for me you're always there.

Everyday You ease my pain,
And help me through my day.
You let me know I'm not alone,
You teach me love that way.

Everyday I say a prayer
To keep you safe and free.
And everyday is filled with hope,
That you'll spend time with me.

Everyday you show me love
Wanting nothing back from me.
You let me know you are my friend
And keep me company.

Everyday I look around
Even when my life's a mess.
Knowing in my heart of hearts
My friends are just the best.

Everyday I thank the Lord
For having given me
The very best that I can have,
That is, all my friends, you see!

I'll Help You Learn To Smile

I cannot ease your aching heart,
Nor take your pain away;
But let me stay and take your hand
And walk with you today.

I'll listen when you need to talk,
I'll wipe away your tears;
I'll share your worries when they come,
I'll help you face your fears.

I'm here and I will stand by you,
On each hill you have to climb;
So take my hand, let's face the world ...
And live just one day at a time.

You're not alone, for I'm still here,
I'll go that extra mile;
And when your grief is easier,
I'll help you learn to smile!

Little stones make big mountains,
Little steps can cover miles,
Little acts of loving-kindness
Give the world it's biggest smiles...

Tips For A Beautiful Life!

This story contains some “tips” that may bring you a beautiful life. Read them, live by them more fully, and I promise you will experience a beautiful life!

Take a 10-30 minute walk every day and while you walk, smile.

Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.

When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, “My purpose is to … today.”

Live with the 3 E’s: Energy, Enthusiasm, Empathy, and the 3 F’s: Faith, Family, Friends.

Spend more time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.

Dream more while you are awake.

Try to make at least three people smile each day.

Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn, pass all your tests. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

Smile and laugh more. It will keep the energy vampires away.

Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.

Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagreements.

Make peace with your past, so it won’t mess up the present.

Don’t compare your life with others’. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

Burn the candles, use the nice sheets. Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

Forgive everyone for everything.

What other people think of you is none of your business.

Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.

However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will stay in touch.

Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful, or joyful.

The best is yet to come… Believe.

No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, and show up.

Do the right thing!

Call your family often.

Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: “I am thankful for…” – “Today I accomplished…”

Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

Enjoy the ride. Remember that this is not Disney World and you certainly don’t want a fast pass. Make the most of it and enjoy the ride.

Four Burning Candles

In a room there were four candles burning. The ambiance was so soft you could hear them talking.

The first one said, “I am PEACE, however nobody can keep me lit. I believe I will go out.”

It’s flame rapidly diminishes and goes out completely.

The second one says, “I am FAITH. Most of all I am no longer indispensable, so it does not make any sense that I stay lit any longer.”

When it finished talking a breeze softly blew on it putting it out.

Sadly, the third candle spoke in its turn. “I am LOVE. I have not gotten the strength to stay lit. People put me aside and don’t understand my importance. They even forget to love those who are nearest to them.” And waiting no longer it goes out.

Suddenly a child entered the room and saw three candles not burning. “Why are you not burning you are supposed to stay lit till the end.”

Saying this the child began to cry. Then the fourth candle said, “Don’t be afraid, while I am still burning we can re-light the other candles, I am HOPE.”

With shining eyes, the child took the candle of Hope and lit the other candles.

The flame of Hope should never go out from our life and that each of us can maintain HOPE, FAITH, PEACE and LOVE.

Hope never abandons you. You abandon hope. Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do.

Life's Tug of War

Life can seem ungrateful and not always kind...

Life can pull at your heartstrings and play with your mind...

Life can be blissful and happy and free...

Life can put beauty in the things that you see ...

Life can place challenges right at your feet...

Life can make good of the hardships we meet...

Life can overwhelm you and make your head spin...

Life can reward those determined to win...

Life can be hurtful and not always fair...

Life can surround you with people who care ...

Life clearly does offer its ups and its downs...

Life's days can bring you both smiles and frowns...

Life teaches us to take the good with the bad...

Life is a mixture of happy and sad...

SO...

Take the life that you have and give it your best...

Think positive be happy let God do the rest...

Take the challenges that life has laid at your feet...

Take pride and be thankful for each one you meet...

To yourself give forgiveness if you stumble and fall...

Take each day that is dealt you and give it your all...

Take the love that you're given and return it with care...

Have faith that when needed it will always be there...

Take time to find the beauty in the things that you see...

Take life's simple pleasures let them set your heart free...

The idea here is simply to even the score...

As you are met and faced with Life's Tug of War.

The Way

Ron Johnson – The Way - Denver Special Mtgs – 2005
Hymn 241 One of the first verses that I learned was John 14:6. “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the father but by me.” What we do with the truth will determine what the truth will do for us. What we do with the way and what we do with the life determines what it can do for us. There is a reward in all things for doing it.
What we do with the way determines what the way will do for us. Isaiah 35:8-10. When Jesus said follow me, he means follow him. Just to walk in it. A picture of the way of Christ. A prophesy of the way of Christ. There is a highway there. A way that is above all other ways. Is there a way that is higher than the way of God? It is called a way of holiness (spirit) and a clean way. It cannot be tainted or defiled by anything unclean. A needy world and restless humanity. But there is a precious way.
A way that is protected. Well protected. Wonderful to walk down the middle of that way and feel safe. “The wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.” You shall never regret that you walk this way. No room for regrets in the way of Christ. The redeemed shall walk there. It is a way of gladness and joy.
What do we do with the truth: Proverbs 23:23. “Buy the truth and sell it not.” We buy the truth. Wisdom, instruction, and understanding are the benefits of buying the truth. You will never be a spiritual pauper. You will have something that is very worthwhile. We live in spiritual luxury. If you don’t believe that, count your blessings. “. . . one by one . . .” should be ton by ton. Why do we buy it? Because there is one that wants you to sell out. If you put a price on the truth, Satan will be there with the cash in hand. When we buy it, we have something of tremendous value.
John 8:31-32. “Knowing the truth.” We can know the truth and it can set us free. They were not free from blind traditions and chains from a law that kept them in constant bondage and the sin of self-righteousness. When you know the truth, it will make you free. Zachariah 8.19 He mentions fast. Loving the truth for always. A spiritual fast. What changes come about in our life.
What we do with life. John 6:53-54. Apply these thoughts to what we do with the life of Jesus. If we eat his flesh and drink his blood, we have life. Why do we do that? We are partaking of all things of Jesus. Apply the life and teachings of Jesus. The flesh. The outward and the blood. The inward result: we will raise him up in the last day. John 11:24. Partaking of life that will give us a resurrection. I Peter 3. Psalm 34. Love life and see good days. We can love this life – Jesus has the life.

Genesis 43:

Jon Wright (California worker laboring in Chile on home visit) spoke in our Wed night study of Gen 43. He compared Ruben’s response to Jacob concerning taking Benjamin down to Eqypt in Gen 42v37 with Judah’s response in Gen 43v9: Ruben was prepared to sacrifice his sons, should they return without Benjamin (human nature’s reaction: sacrifice something precious, just not himself), while Judah offered himself as a ‘surety for him; of my hand though require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever’ (the Christ nature’s reaction...indeed, Christ died for our redemption). Is it any wonder that Christ descended from the house of Judah? We must be willing to sacrifice ourselves unto God and submitting all that is precious to us of this life, to have the Christ nature within.
Sometimes we have a real hard time entering through the open door God has provided for wanting to go our way, so God gave them only one open door (43v2)...they had to go down into Egypt to buy corn, there was no other option.
Joseph tried to reveal himself to them; he had them brought to his own home, instead of dealing with them at the storehouse; he sat by himself, not with the Egyptians because it was an abomination for the Egyptians to eat with Hebrews, not with them either, but rather he sent a much larger mess to Benjamin then he did to the rest of them, indicating that he knew that Benjamin was special; and he had them set before him in order from the 1st born to the youngest (and who else would have know except their own brother). He tried to reveal himself without telling them, but they were so full of their own thoughts of condemnation, that failed to perceive him as their brother. We need to be quiet within, so that God can reveal His thinking to us.

One Little Rose

I would rather have one little rose
From the garden of a friend,
Than to have the choicest flowers
When my stay on earth must end.

I would rather have one pleasant word
In kindness said to me,
Than flattery when the heart is still
And life has ceased to be.

I would rather have a loving smile
From friends I know are true,
Than tears shed round my casket
When this world I've bid adieu.

Bring me all your flowers today
Whether pink, or white, or red;
I'd rather have one blossom now
Than a truckload when I'm dead!

        Comfort on difficult days,

Smiles when sadness intrudes,

Rainbows to follow the clouds,

Laughter to kiss your lips,

Sunsets to warm your heart,

Faith so that you can believe,

Courage to know yourself,

Patience to accept the truth,

And love to complete your life.

The Falcon And The Branch

Once there was a king who received a gift of two magnificent falcons. They were peregrine falcons, the most beautiful birds he had ever seen. He gave the precious birds to his head falconer to be trained.

Months passed, and one day the head falconer informed the king that though one of the falcons was flying majestically, soaring high in the sky, the other bird had not moved from its branch since the day it had arrived.

The king summoned healers and sorcerers from all the land to tend to the falcon, but no one could make the bird fly.

He presented the task to the member of his court, but the next day, the king saw through the palace window that the bird had still not moved from its perch.

Having tried everything else, the king thought to himself, “May be I need someone more familiar with the countryside to understand the nature of this problem.” So he cried out to his court, “Go and get a farmer.”

In the morning, the king was thrilled to see the falcon soaring high above the palace gardens. He said to his court, “Bring me the doer of this miracle.”

The court quickly located the farmer, who came and stood before the king. The king asked him, “How did you make the falcon fly?”

With his head bowed, the farmer said to the king, “It was very easy, your highness. I simply cut the branch where the bird was sitting.”

We are all made to fly — to realize our incredible potential as human beings. But at times we sit on our branches, clinging to the things that are familiar to us. The possibilities are endless, but for most of us, they remain undiscovered. We conform to the familiar, the comfortable, and the mundane. So for the most part, our lives are mediocre instead of exciting, thrilling and fulfilling. Let us learn to destroy the branch of fear we cling to and free ourselves to the glory of flight!

The Little Boy

Sally jumped up as soon as she saw the surgeon come out of the operating room. She said: “How is my little boy? Is he going to be all right? When can I see him?”

The surgeon said, “I’m sorry. We did all we could, but your boy didn’t make it.”

Sally said, “Why do little children get cancer? Doesn’t God care any more? Where were you, God, when my son needed you?”

The surgeon asked, “Would you like some time alone with your son? One of the nurses will be out in a few minutes, before he’s transported to the university.”

Sally asked the nurse to stay with her while she said good-bye to son. She ran her fingers lovingly through his thick red curly hair.

“Would you like a lock of his hair?” the nurse asked.

Sally nodded yes. The nurse cut a lock of the boy’s hair, put it in a plastic bag and handed it to Sally. The mother said, “It was Jimmy’s idea to donate his body to the university for study. He said it might help somebody else. “I said no at first, but Jimmy said, ‘Mom, I won’t be using it after I die. Maybe it will help some other little boy spend one more day with his Mom.” She went on, “My Jimmy had a heart of gold.

Always thinking of someone else. Always wanting to help others if he could.”

Sally walked out of Children’s mercy Hospital for the last time, after spending most of the last six months there. She put the bag with Jimmy’s belongings on the seat beside her in the car. The drive home was difficult. It was even harder to enter the empty house. She carried Jimmy’s belongings, and the plastic bag with the lock of his hair to her son’s room. She started placing the model cars and other personal things back in his room exactly where he had always kept them. She laid down across his bed and, hugging his pillow, cried herself to sleep.

It was around midnight when Sally awoke. Laying beside her on the bed was a folded letter. The letter said:

“Dear Mom,

I know you’re going to miss me; but don’t think that I will ever forget you, or stop loving you, just ’cause I’m not around to say I LOVE YOU. I will always love you, Mom, even more with each day. Someday we will see each other again. Until then, if you want to adopt a little boy so you won’t be so lonely, that’s okay with me. He can have my room and old stuff to play with. But, if you decide to get a girl instead, she probably wouldn’t like the same things us boys do. You’ll have to buy her dolls and stuff girls like, you know. Don’t be sad thinking about me. This really is a neat place. Grandma and Grandpa met me as soon as I got here and showed me around some, but it will take a long time to see everything. The angels are so cool. I love to watch them fly. And, you know what? Jesus doesn’t look like any of his pictures. Yet, when I saw Him, I knew it was Him. Jesus himself took me to see GOD! And guess what, Mom? I got to sit on God’s knee and talk to Him, like I was somebody important. That’s when I told Him that I wanted to write you a letter, to tell you good-bye and everything. But I already knew that wasn’t allowed. Well, you know what Mom? God handed me some paper and His own personal pen to write you this letter. I think Gabriel is the name of the angel who is going to drop this letter off to you. God said for me to give you the answer to one of the questions you asked Him ‘Where was He when I needed him?’ “God said He was in the same place with me, as when His son Jesus was on the cross. He was right there, as He always is with all His children.

Oh, by the way, Mom, no one else can see what I’ve written except you. To everyone else this is just a blank piece of paper. Isn’t that cool? I have to give God His pen back now. He needs it to write some more names in the Book of Life. Tonight I get to sit at the table with Jesus for supper. I’m, sure the food will be great.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you. I don’t hurt anymore. The cancer is all gone. I’m glad because I couldn’t stand that pain anymore and God couldn’t stand to see me hurt so much, either. That’s when He sent The Angel of Mercy to come get me. The Angel said I was a Special Delivery! How about that?

Signed with Love from: God, Jesus & Me.”

The Three Dolls

A sage presented a prince with a set of three small dolls. The prince was not amused.

“Am I a girl that you give me dolls?” – He asked.

“This is a gift for a future king,” Said the sage. “If you look carefully, you’ll see a hole in the ear of each doll.”

The sage handed him a piece of string. “Pass it through each doll.” – He said.

Intrigued, the prince picked up the first doll and put the string into the ear. It came out from the other ear.

“This is one type of person,” said the sage, “whatever you tell him, comes out from the other ear. He doesn’t retain anything.”

The prince picked up the third doll and repeated the process. The string did not come out. “This is the third type of person,” said the sage, “whatever you tell him is locked up within him. It never comes out.”

“What is the best type of person?” – Asked the prince.

The sage handed him a fourth doll, in answer. When the prince put the string into the doll, it came out from the other ear.

“Do it again.” – Said the sage.

The prince repeated the process. This time the string came out from the mouth. When he put the string in a third time, it did not come out at all.

“This is the best type of person,” said the sage. “To be trustworthy, a man must know when not to listen, when to remain silent and when to speak out.”

End of Convention Quiz

Morris Grovum – End of Convention Quiz - Penang 2009

This is the last day of our convention; and for some it’s the last day of our convention season. Some have had just one and some have had two: Singapore and Pt Dickson. When we were at school, at the end of year; there would be a little examination. So today I am going to give you a little quiz and have 9 different questions to ask. If you are taking notes you can write them down but should you disagree with the teacher, please come to me after the class.
I would like to share a little of my experience. I heard the gospel when I was 22 years old; I was cat-napping for 22 years. Then I went into the work in 1969; and that was 40 years ago, but I feel I am still in kindergarten. At first my Mother and Father were opposed to the gospel, but then they softened up and both made their choice. I would see my Father reading his Bible and then he would pray. And he was faithful until he passed away at 92 years of age, having had a stroke a few days before. My Mother made shipwreck four or five years after she made her choice. I had a birthday coming up and she asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and because there were friends coming over. I said, “All I want is a better Mother.” I was home a couple of years ago. It was on a Sunday afternoon and we had a gospel meeting and Mother went with me. She said, “Morris I hope you won’t be too disappointed if I don’t make my choice today.” That showed me something was troubling her. This week there were three funerals. One of our friends going home from a Wednesday night meeting and there was a head-on crash and she was killed. The only certain thing about life is that it is uncertain!
Well, Question No. 1: There are two places where God dwells. You children, where is one place God dwells? In heaven? Yes, that’s right, but where else does God dwell? He dwells in the hearts of his people. John 14:23 “If a man love me, he will keep my words; and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him and make our abode with him.”
About 15 years ago my companion and I were called to a funeral on a Wednesday afternoon. That night we had a meeting and the local school teacher had just arrived there. She pulled up and asked the folks of the home, “Can I come to your Bible study meeting?” She stood up and started asking questions, so we told her we would answer her questions afterwards. After, when we were leaving, she said, “God loves every one.” But I said, “One thing I know, God loves us a little more.” Later she said, “That’s right – “If a man love me, he will keep my words; and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him and make our abode with him.” Yes, God loves the whole world, but God loves his own a little more – his children. And he and his Father will come and dwell in their hearts.
Question No. 2: And this is a little harder. Now, we believe in the devil, and where does the devil dwell? And this was a surprise to me. In Revelation 12:7, 8 and 9 “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels. And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” This is a vision of what had happened. He was cast out into the world and his angels were cast out with him.
So, when we step out from this convention it’s into enemy territory! The devil has no other place to dwell and the devil is not just floating around in the air, but wants to dwell in the lives of people. He’s not floating around in the air, but he comes on two legs! I wondered when Jesus was tempted by the devil if he came on two legs? “You are the Son of God: you can make these stones into bread. Look after yourself first: think of yourself first!” But Jesus said, “It is written man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God.” “He may have come if you were the Son of God; you know Caesar who is the Emperor – when he snaps his finger the whole world has to jump.” But that was a lie, so maybe he came to Jesus on two legs. “You can throw yourself down from this wall and God will lift you up.” I don’t know how the devil came to Eve in the Old Testament because it says the serpent came. But the devil said to her, “You can serve God and you can serve yourself. You can partake of the tree of knowledge and good and evil.” The tree of life is Jesus, but the tree of knowledge is the dependency in every life! We can make our own choices and refuse what’s wrong. Where did Eve make her mistake? She started discussing these things with the devil; and the second thing was, she should have gone to her husband.
Did you know that the devil has children? You read about that in John’s epistles. Did you know the devil has ministers? II Corinthians 11:13 “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore, it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” The devil is a professional. You see him sometimes with three horns; but he came to Eve with words. He wants to come and he’s his own minister. He poses as a minister of righteousness. But Satan himself was transformed into an angel of light. They dress up like ministers of righteousness. Satan means opposer. The dragon means cruel, and the devil is deceitful! Peter said, “The devil is a roaring lion seeking whom he can devour.” You just have to resist him; we don’t have to fight him. What’s an example? A few years ago in Saskatchewan, one of our friends was in hospital; and they have over ten different denominations there. This man knew all too well that our friend, Martin, had a Sunday morning meeting in his home. Well, this minister came in and asked, “What church do you go to?” And Martin said, “The same one that you read of in the Bible.”
In South Africa a worker told us of a boy and his mother. His mother told him, “If you ever see a lion coming at you to attack, don’t run, because he will have you for supper. Turn around and stare the lion in his eyes.” So, the boy listened. A few years later when he was walking down this trail, he was 15 years old, and there was a lion. The first thing he thought of was running, but he stared at that lion. The lion came right up at him, pawed at the ground a bit, then turned around and left. We have nothing to be ashamed of; nothing to apologize for. But if there’s somebody seeking and searching, I just like to tell them, “I’m part of the church that you read of in the New Testament.” Someone else said, “I belong to the only church you read about in the New Testament.”
Question No. 3: Where is the verse in the Bible that says God’s way is light? I love the words of Jesus in Matthew chapter 11:28-30 “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
So God’s way is not hard; God’s way is easy. The only thing that makes God’s way hard is when we resist; when there’s rebellion inside us that’s rebellious to God’s will. In Alberta, every winter they have this demonstration of horses with their beautiful harnesses. We were watching them, and one particular team seemed unmatched. One pony was very resigned while the other one was jumping around against the harness. That particular pony was all wet and sweated up. When a horse starts to sweat, white foam covers him. For that little pony the way was hard, whereas for the other one it was easy. If we are resisting the way and will of God we are fighting and we get frustrated and the way becomes hard. We may not think so if we are fighting on the inside. It’s something that’s often on the outside. If we become a rebel it often becomes evident on the outside. Just one sign is what a man or woman does with their hair. The mark of a rebel for a man is when he lets his hair grow long. If a woman is rebelling she starts chopping off her hair. Most of the ladies in Vietnam have lovely, long hair, but one day a young lady turned up and she wanted to demonstrate her rebellion. She said she was trying to be a Buddhist and she is still fighting. But Jesus said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
I think of those folks in Vietnam that carry loads on their shoulders. One time we were on the beach and there was a little lady carrying water from the ocean up to the restaurant. I said, “Let me carry that for you,” and I tell you that load was heavy. But she knew how to carry her load. There’s a certain way to do it and that’s with a willing heart. That makes the burden lighter. I’m sure that lady didn’t put a couple of stones in her load. Jesus said, “Take my yoke upon you for I am meek and lowly in heart.” That’s part of the secret. Jesus was saying, “I am meek and humble.” We often think those two things are the same. Meekness is the fruit of the Spirit, and Jesus had wonderful meekness. If we can take insult without resentment we have meekness. Who was insulted more than Jesus? Have you ever had anyone call you a devil? That would be an insult. I looked up the meaning of Beelzebub; and it meant Lord of the devils. Jesus was meek and took insult without resentment. Humility is having an understanding and acceptance.
Galatians 6:3 “If a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.” We are just about 50kgs of dust. It’s so easy to be proud, but proud people are easily offended. But if we are humble it doesn’t matter what people tell you because if you are nothing, you won’t get offended. A little girl got home and told her mother, “They told me I look ugly.” And mother said, “What did you say?” She said, “I think you look nice.” So Jesus was meek and humble. If we are meek and humble, that makes the load lighter. There’s nothing heavier than to carry a feeling of unforgiveness. That’s a heavy load.
Question No. 4: How can you lower the standard of Jesus? We often hear that expression that so-and-so lowered the standard of Jesus. We can live beneath the standard if we want to, but you can’t lower the standard of Jesus. We want to seek to uphold the standard of Christ. In Acts chapter 1:9 who were there with Jesus? “When he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up: and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold two men stood by them in white apparel which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”
So it’s not going to be a 2009 version; he’s going to come back the same Jesus that we are hearing about. He will be looking for the same kind of church, the same kind of people and the same kind of ministry. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever, and we will all be judged by the word of Jesus. All mankind will be judged by the very same kind of Jesus and the same words of Jesus. We can live beneath it, if we want to; but the standard of Jesus is fixed.
Question No. 5: When do you think the anti-Christ will come? Some time in the future? No! 1st Epistle John chapter 2:18 “Little children, it is the last time; and as ye have heard that anti-Christ shall come, even now are there many anti-Christs: whereby we know that it is the last time. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.” So the anti-Christ has been here 2,000 years. Chapter 4 tells us what it is: “Beloved believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and that is that spirit of anti-Christ, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.” The anti-Christ spirit is a spirit that comes into the lives of people in false religion that makes them think they have Christ, but they have something exactly the opposite. Right away their face turns red and you can feel that enmity. They hardly know what’s happening and they start to argue. Do you know what it is? It’s the spirit of anti-Christ that’s fighting against the Spirit of Christ.
Question No. 6: Ten times in the Epistle of John he wrote about “my little children.” So where were the big children? All the big children had gone out.
When I was home I attended some twenty plus conventions, and I wondered, “Is it going to be the same spirit at the next convention?” And what a thrill it was to go from convention to convention amongst God’s people. If we ever get to be big children we won’t last long. People with all the answers seem to have all the problems. Good to have the spirit of a little child. When a little child grows, he can grow up to be a perfect little child.
Question No. 7: What is the first thing that’s going to happen when Jesus returns? The answer is in 1st Thessalonians 4:16 “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” The way I see it is: it’s those that have died in Christ and are waiting for the resurrection. When Jesus comes he will bring with him those souls and they will be reunited. Those that reside on the earth; their bodies will be changed with the resurrection body and God’s people will be caught up and taken from the earth. Jesus said it will happen as fast as lightning. In one place where two will be in a field, one will be taken and the other will be left.
Question No. 8: Is that when every eye will see him? I think the answer is no! My companion in the third year of the work was a great teacher. He said there were two faces to Christ’s coming. He will come for his people; and the next – he will come with his people. So, after Jesus comes there is going to be a state of turmoil and tribulation on the earth. Matthew 24:27 “For as the lightning cometh out of the east and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be. For wheresoever the carcass is, there will the eagles be gathered together.” God put something in the eagle and that’s where they will be gathered together. God put something in his people that we will be drawn to Christ as we are drawn to Christ today. When you go on a vacation, what do you do? Some of our friends when they go on a vacation, come Sunday, they find out where the meeting is and they are there. Verse 29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened and the moon shall not give her light and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.” Jesus said it would be like lightning, but he didn’t say anything about the thunder. Verse 30 “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” That’s when Jesus will come for his people. I have several verses of when Jesus will come with his people -1 Thessalonians 3:13 ”To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.” First, he will come for his people. Then in the ages he will come with his people. Between that time there will be terrible tribulation on the earth. Enoch prophesied of this, and that’s when the judgment day will happen. That’s not when Christ comes for his people because he will come with his people – that’s when the marriage feast is going to take place. Revelation 1:7 “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him (the Jews): and all kindred of the earth shall wail because of him.” If twenty buses were to go over to the main land, we could all get on. But if there was only one bus going, we would be left standing there. You plan to be on the bus, but you are left behind. So who are those that will be left? Jesus spoke of the ten virgins. The five foolish were right there with the wise. They were thinking that these five virgins were foolish carrying this extra oil; but they will be left. In the message to the Laodiceans (Revelation 3:15) the Lord said, “I know thy works that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.” Going to a meeting doesn’t make us a Christian. It’s like a passport to another country. If you are going to another country you need a visa; and that’s like having the Spirit of Christ.
Just imagine the portion of those that are left. I think of four different classes. Think of the prodigal who knows exactly what he should be doing. They know where God’s people are, and they feel, “If I need it, they are there.” That year I went home, a sister and some friends were having lunch together in a café and this trucker fellow came in. So when they went to pay their bill they were told, “That trucker that was sitting over there, paid your bill.” Maybe he was someone who grew up in a home, but he wasn’t willing. When Christ comes back there’s going to be a class of people on the earth who will know what they should have been doing. But they weren’t doing: and they will be in the midst of this tribulation. The weeping will be of those who never knew there was such a thing as God’s way. The wailing will be those who came right to the door. And the gnashing of teeth are those who left it and walked away! If they are living when Christ returns they will be caught in that calamity that we read of in the 9th chapter Revelation verse 20 where one third of everything happening, it says, “Yet they repented not of the works of their hands.” It seems somehow, there’s an opportunity for people to repent. I don’t think any of us want to be caught in that time. When Jesus comes he is coming with power and glory. It’s going to be a glorious time and he’s going to reign for 1,000 years on this earth. Meekness is a terrific power. We read where every knee shall bow, but in this day every knee will bow. Everyone will submit to the King of kings on that day. So we have a terrific lot to look forward to in following Jesus and walking in this way.
Question No. 9: What is the last prayer in the Bible? It’s found in the second last verse of Revelation chapter 22, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus. And the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.” I hope that can be our prayer also, “Come, Lord Jesus.”

Bread From Heaven

Exodus 16:4 "Then the Lord said unto Moses, behold, I will rain bread from heaven and the people shall go out and gather at a certain rate every day..."

Perhaps the most important part was that it was from heaven! If it's not from heaven then it's not real bread and it will never really feed. All the eloquent speaking and good preaching might thrill the soul, but it'll never fill the soul. It must be from the heart of God to really feed.

Manna, this spiritual bread is not a commodity. It can't be brought or sold. It is a gift. All it needs is to be received. The people in the wilderness didn't have to invent it or produce it; all they had to do was to "gather it".

Manna was never found in Egypt, (the world), nor was it any longer needed in the Promised Land, (eternity).

Manna was given only to a very specific people; God's people, and only for a very specific time; only while they were journeying to the Promised Land.

Manna was a complete food. They needed nothing else. They say the reindeer above the Arctic Circle eat just a certain type of moss that grows in that climate. They eat nothing else, it's so full of nutrients.

That is much like our buffalo in Canada. In the early days the buffalo herds would graze on a short, very hearty grass called prairie wool. Most grasses send their nutrients down to the roots for the winter, but not prairie wool. It was a complete food for the buffalo. They were strong, healthy and could face the fierce blizzards of the open prairie.

Manna means "what is it?" Yes, what is it that keeps us alive? What is it that makes us grow, helps us to be healthy and strong, enabling us to face the fierce storms of life. What is it? Yes, it's the bread from heaven.

Don't Fret Or Cry Or Worry

Keep sweet when things get bitter.
Keep right when things go wrong.
Commit the cause to Jesus.
'Tis He who gives the song.

In time of tribulation
Press onward in the fray;
Commit the cause to Jesus,
And you will win the day.

Don't fret or cry or worry,
Don't murmur, don't complain;
The light affliction passeth soon,
And then comes morn again.

If..,

If you could plan the way of life.
There'd be no tears, no loss,
But then how should we ever learn
The meaning of the Cross?
Now learn to bear our burdens
With courage and good cheer?
No need to do a kindly deed
If all were perfect here.

If everyone had everything,
What need of sacrifice?
Would things have any value
If they did not have a price?
If troubles never came our way,
How peaceful life would be,
But then perhaps we'd never learn
To face reality.

If nothing ever interfered
With life's calm easy flow,
How should we learn to brave the storm?
How would the Spirit grow?
If all were well, what need to serve,
To love and sympathize?
The things that make us humble
Are the things that make us wise.

Found In My Grandmother's Things

Alphabet...

Although things are not perfect
Because of trials or pain
Continue in thanksgiving
Do not begin to blame

Even when the times are hard
Fierce winds are bound to blow
God is forever able
Hold on to what you know

Imagine life without His love
Joy would cease to be
Keep thanking Him for all the things
Love imparts to thee

Move out of ' Camp Complaining '
No weapon that is known
On earth can yield the power
Praise can do alone

Quit looking at the future
Redeem the time at hand
Start every day with worship
To 'thank' is a command

Until we see Him coming
Victorious in the sky
We'll run the race with gratitude
Xaulting God most high

Yes, there'll be good times & yes some will be bad, but...
Zion waits in glory...where no one is ever sad!

Why Dogs Are Special

undefined

When God had made the earth and sky
The flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals,
The fish, the birds and bees.
And when at last He'd finished,
Not one was quite the same,
He said "I'll walk this world of mine,
And give them each a name."
And so He traveled far and wide,
and everywhere He went,
A little creature followed Him
Until its strength was spent.
When all were named upon the earth,
And in the sky and sea,
The little creature said, "Dear Lord,
There's not one left for me."
Kindly the Father said to him,
"I've left you to the end,
I've turned my own name back to front,
And called you DOG, my friend."

"They Aren't Where They Used To Be."

Sometimes we tell people, "You really need to get out more." For my wife, that was especially true some years ago. Our ministry had been growing so fast that she almost felt like a prisoner at the office. She hadn't been able to get out and shop, even in the town where we lived.

Well, she finally broke down, and she "escaped", if you will, because she had so much needed shopping to do. That night she came home and she said, "You know, it's kind of sad. I had my route all planned out, what I was going to buy, where I was going to buy it, how to avoid backtracking." She said, "There was one small problem: the stores aren't there anymore."

I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "They Aren't Where They Used To Be."

Our word for today from the Word of God comes from John chapter 4. We find Jesus in a place where most Jews would never go. It was an area called Samaria. Jews weren't very well liked there. And it says, "He had to go through Samaria." Now, this chapter tells us that He has a life-transforming encounter there with a Samaritan woman, who finds out that the love of Christ is the love she's been looking for her whole life.

And then finally, when we get down to verses 39 and 41 it says, "Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in Jesus because of the woman's testimony. And because of His words, many more became believers." Now, why did Jesus have to go through Samaria? Because that's where Samaritans are! The Samaritans would never have come to Him. He went where the lost people were. He connected with them on their turf where they were comfortable.

Now let's fast-forward to the present. On our watch, America has become a post-Christian nation. We're surrounded by people every day who don't know our language, they don't know our morality, they don't know anything about our meetings or want to go to them, they don't know our heroes, they don't know our book. They don't know anything about our Savior. There's plenty of activity going on in the name of evangelism, but it seems like we're missing most of our neighbors. We're not making a difference, and the chasm between the world of the church and the world of the lost is wider than ever. What's the problem? Could it be the same problem that my wife found after being cloistered in her office for too long? She went where the action had been, but it wasn't there anymore.

So many of the ways we try to reach lost people were developed maybe decades ago, and we're still trying to reach people with the same kind of programs, same vocabulary, same kind of presentations, and music and literature. See, we're going to where they used to be, and they moved. They're not there anymore.

When it comes to communicating with lost people, the price of failure is eternally high. It is an unthinkable eternity for those who are lost! We can't leave the people around us lost and wait for them to come to us, or to our meeting, or to our place. Jesus didn't do that. He went to their turf. He went to their place. He talked about the things they cared about. He explained the gospel in words and examples that they could understand; not religious talk.

The ancient Indian proverb says, "We need to walk a mile in the other man's moccasins." In other words, think post-Christian for a minute. Think lost! How would a lost person think in these times? How would they respond to our program? How would they respond to how we're saying it? Be the person you're trying to reach. Would you come to those Christian meetings? Would you understand those religious words? What would interest you there? What would keep you coming back?

Would they come to our website? Would they listen to what we're doing? What's going on in the life of a 21st Century lost person that would make them interested in Jesus? What are the differences in a Christian you know that would mean something to you if you're a lost person? You say, "Man, I want what they've got." Want would that be? You want to find someone who's lost, go where they are.

Maybe we've been in our little Christian cocoon too long. We need to realize that the people who have to know about our Jesus don't live where they used to live, they don't understand what they used to understand. Like Jesus, we need to "seek and save those who are lost." Please, go to lost people where they are.

Joseph's Experiences:

In the pit, he died to self pity;
In Potiphar's house, he died to temptation;
In prison, he died to discouragement;
In the palace, he died to pride;
And when facing his brothers, he died to revenge.
In temptation, he never lost his heart.

Being tested, he never lost his testimony;
Being lifted up, he never lost his head;
Being hated, he never lost his spirit;
And being away from fellowship, he never lost his Godly identity.

Joseph was God-made, not self-made.
What he became, he obtained by submission, not ambition.

Only The Bible Can...,

A Little Taste of Hell

'The fear of God' is but a phrase
To he who lives in sin.
It's turned the course of many a man
But it doesn't trouble him.

He'll gamble with his priceless soul,
He'll throw it all away
To stand alone, bereft, bereaved
On that great judgement day.

The day when every knee will bow
And every tongue confess.
And this poor soul will give account
Of how he made a mess.

It wasn't like he didn't know,
While time and chance were there,
The little voice which often spoke.
Back then he didn't care!

If I could plead for such a one,
When life and all seems well,
I'd pray that God would give to him
A little taste of Hell.

A little taste of hopelessness,
A little taste of shame,
A little taste of deep remorse,
A little taste of pain.

Just enough to make him pray
Like he's never prayed before.
To beg a chance to make things right,
Just that and nothing more.

For the fear of God is a wondrous thing
And wise men know it well.
Who would have thought it precious,
A little taste of Hell.

Legend Of The Lighthouse

Along a rugged craggy coast a stately lighthouse stood, sending forth its shining beams,
helping seafarers all it could.
This one desperate stormy night, or so the legend’s told, one hardened veteran mariner
had wandered from the fold.
His seaman’s knowledge had failed him and he didn’t sense the storm.
The blackened water caught him up and tossed him to and fro.
How he would ever reach the shore he surely didn’t know.
At one time he’d felt close to God but through the years, he’d drifted away.
Now faith rose in his heart once more as the old man began to pray...
“Dear Lord, I ask your guidance for I’m lost upon the sea.
I put this vessel into your hands and I place my trust in thee...”
No sooner had he said these words a voice said “Steer to right.”
Was his old mind playing tricks? he asked, but he turned with all his might.
A glimpse of lightning flashed. A huge boulder grazed his boat.
He didn’t question further—The voice had kept his craft afloat.
In the foggy distance, now he saw the sign he’d waited for:
The lighthouse with its steady beam guiding him back to shore.
“It’s you, Lord, isn’t it?”, asked the man, his heart longing to be sure.
“I am with you,” came the answer, then these words, clear and pure:
“I am the arms that carried you through the darkest times you’ve known
I am the Voice you hear in the night—And the Light that leads you home.”
