Convention

Holy Convocation, man with God to meet
Fellowship so precious, at the mercy seat.
Holy Inspiration given from on high,
Prompting dedication, how to live and die.
Holy consolation, solace from above,
Heaven’s peace descending, comforter of love.
Holy Revelation, Christ the Son of God
From the heights of heaven, on this earth to trod.
Holy Invitation, when the Spirit calls,
Moving hearts to action, all the soul enthralls.
Holy Resignation, not my will but Thine,
All to Thee is yielded, won by love Divine.
Holy Consecration, inward purity,
Dwelling place for Jesus, Oh! To worthier be.
(Poem on the wall of the dining hall of the convention in Jamaica)

To-day

Why fear to-morrow, timid heart?
Why tread the future’s way?
We only need to do our part
To-day, dear child, to-day.
The past is written! Close the book
On pages sad and gay;
Within the future do not look,
But live to-day – to-day.
‘Tis this one hour that God has given;
His Now we must obey;
And it will make our earth His heaven
To live to-day – to-day.
