Amazing Harmony

Very interesting reading again from my old files:

About 40 men wrote the Bible, producing 66 books. They belonged
to different generations, centuries and ages in human history. They
lived in different lands. Their writings stretched over nearly 2,000
years. Collusions ad conspiracy were together impossible. Many of
them never saw or communicated with any of the other writers. They
were reared in different environments, molded by different national
experiences, spoke different languages. One was the founder of the
world’s first republic and a law giver, another an exile in Babylon,
another a herdsman of Tekoa, another a cupbearer at the Persian
court, another a shepherd lad who later became a king.
Some were rich, others poor some were educated, others untaught.

They wrote in three languages and on every conceivable subject.
They employed every literary expression: history, biography, poetry,
proverbs, ethical teachings, legal enactments, moral maxims,
dramas, oriental imagery. Yet these two score writers writing on
such a variety of themes in widely separated countries and different
languages did not conflict. In all they wrote is AMAZING
HARMONY……they produced a Book. Such a thing is absolutely
unparalleled in literature and in itself conclusive proof of the
supernatural origin of the Bible.

This book contains the mind of God, the state of man, the Way of
salvation the doom of sinners, the happiness of believers. Its
doctrine is holy, precepts are binding, histories true, decisions
immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, practice it to be
holy. It contains light to direct us, food to support and comfort to
cheer, and it is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s
compass, the soldier’s sword and the Christian’s charter. Here
paradise is restored, heaven is opened and the gates of hell
disclosed. Christ is its grand subject, our good its design, and the
glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and
guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently and prayerfully. It is given to
us in life, it will be opened at the judgment and remembered forever. It
involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor and
will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.
